5. Inflate the balloon with about 10cc of water using a syringe.
6. Ensure urine flows into the sterile drainage bag if present in the bladder.

Handling the Drainage Bag:

In the hospital: Hang the urinary drainage bag on the bedside rail using the hook on the bag.

At home: Replace the hospital drainage bag with a portable leg bag secured to the calf area with adhesive tape.

Removing the Catheter:

Deflate the catheter balloon by inserting a syringe into the catheter valve and withdrawing the fluid. Once the balloon is deflated, gently pull out the Foley catheter.
